Capturing memories during your maternity leave is so important and I often find that the primary carer of a baby generally takes hundreds of photos of everyone with their baby but very rarely does anyone get photos of you with your baby for you to treasure.

This beautiful photoshoot was with the lovely new mum Ella and her son Reuben. Ella was able to move around with her son freely and naturally whilst I captured photos of the two of them interacting and focusing on those precious moments of love between mum and baby.

My main focus is always doing what’s best and comfortable for both mum and baby and if baby needs feeding or changing or simply just needs a cuddle that is absolutely the priority and as long as mum is comfortable these moments are something I love to capture. I often use this time to take photos of the nursery, toys and clothing.

This shoot was created doing things that mum would usually be doing with baby, whether that be playing on the floor, reading books, feeding, changing nappies so baby feels as comfortable as possible and gets to enjoy the shoot with no harsh lighting or poses required. I have a hands off approach when it comes to your little ones, this enables me to focus more on the natural connection between parent and baby than poses and you know that all smiles or emotions are organic and meaningful.
