Hello!
So a little bit about SKBphotography…
Ethos
The photographs we hang in our homes and share with our loved ones are so much more than just images, everything about a photo is a memory. When you look at photos around your home they take you back to the day they were taken; how you were feeling, the decor around you, how chaotic it was getting all the kids ready in time, the outfit that got ruined when your toddler spilt juice down them 10 minutes before. The entire process is important to me, not just the images but the feeling you get when you look at them and the memories they create.
Hello, I’m Sarah, a lifestyle photographer based in York. My style of photography lands right in the middle of documentary and lifestyle photography. I enjoy capturing the beautiful reality of family life. After becoming a mum of a very busy, high energy little girl the only way to capture images of her were on the go doing what she loves doing. No poses, no set up backdrops, no fancy lighting equipment just documenting her everyday life and this is how I found the style of photography I love.
I started my photography journey back in my first year of college where I studied photography at a-level and like a lot of creative people I wanted to try different creative industries to see which was the best fit for me as I love anything arty. I eventually circled back to photography and started my business after having my daughter.
The style of my photography was created because of my little girl, during lockdown there was no opportunity to photograph families in the traditional sense and I started a project called ‘Doorstep Photography’. I photographed families in my local area on their doorsteps to document this moment in time that had never happened before and would hopefully never happen again. The rest of my days in lockdown were spent documenting little moments with Grace and capturing her doing exactly what she wanted to do, what she liked to play with and this created a love for documentary photography. It’s the art of seeing perfect moments in ordinary life. You can read more about the doorstep photography project on my blog page
Fast forward to now and I’m capturing beautiful images of families together in their homes, playing in the garden or out on a day at the beach. I work with businesses (particularly baby groups and toddler classes) to provide images that are soulful and really allow people to see what these sessions are like.
