Our Ethos

The photographs we hang in our homes and share with our loved ones are so much more than just images, everything about a photo is a memory. When you look at photos around your home they take you back to the day they were taken; how you were feeling, the decor around you, how chaotic it was getting all the kids ready in time, the outfit that got ruined when your toddler spilt juice down them 10 minutes before I arrive for the shoot. The entire process is important to me, not just the images but the feeling you get when you look at them and the memories they create.

Hello, I’m Sarah, a lifestyle photographer based in York. My style of photography lands right in the middle of documentary and lifestyle photography. I enjoy capturing the beautiful reality of family life. After becoming a mum of a very busy, high energy little girl the only way to capture images of her were on the go doing what she loves doing. No poses, no set up backdrops, no fancy lighting equipment just documenting her everyday life and this is how I found the style of photography I love.

I started my photography journey back in my first year of college where I studied photography at a-level and like a lot of creative people I wanted to try different creative industries to see which was the best fit for me as I love anything arty. I eventually went down a route of fashion design and after qualifying I went on to design and make wedding dresses which was a wonderful job but not quite the right fit for me. Life eventually took me in an interior design direction which sounds like a bit of a jump but it was a very organic journey and felt very natural. However the constant love was always photography which was always going on behind the scenes and I knew that when my daughter was born I really wanted to concentrate on photography during my maternity leave.

This plan was interrupted slightly by the pandemic, my daughter was born 5 weeks before the first lockdown which meant that the opportunities to get out and about and capture other families images were very limited and I mainly concentrated on capturing images of my daughter just going about her normal life whilst in lockdown. What I realised through these images was how much more soulful the images were, I look back at them as a mum and in the background see the toys that she used to play with and the decor in our house which was now changed considerably and it just adds to the memories and the soul of the images.

Fast forward to now and I’m capturing beautiful images of families within their own homes that tell a story and freeze those memories forever. Time goes fast when you’re raising little ones and I know how much joy it brings me to look back at photos of my own family and I’m so grateful to be able to create those images for other families.
